Customer Reviews

Excelent Camera
Is a excelent product, easy to used and very nice. Now I stay in Kenya and taked absoluty favolous pictures with this Camera. I really recommended

Perfect
I couldn't ask for an easier camera that took better pictures. I am a huge fan.

One of the best affordable SLRs
This is my first SLR. With my little experience on photography, I can tell that this is a great camera even for the simple users for home photography. You can use the flash and regulate the photo brightness (add some shadow if the pic is over exposed, I use the free software Picasa2). You will need a very steady hand and a steady subject to click without flash under little low brightness or dimmed environment.

I use lenses with Image Stabilizer and I have also found the Cannon's relatively cheaper fixed 50 mm lens going very good with the camera especially for low light photos.

I would like to add that I do not know much of photography to comment well on this product.

Great product!!
I was very pleased with the prompt delivery and the many features on this camera. My friend does some professional photography and this is the camera he uses. I'm still figuring it all out but it takes crisp clean photos.

amazing!
I previously owned a measly point and shoot camera, so upgrading to this camera was a huge jump for me. it took some time getting used to, but once I've learned was quite easy to use. i shoot manually without (much) trouble now.

The lens that came with this camera was pretty crappy (EF-S 18-55mm USM). You should definitely get a better lens for the full experience. I recently bought Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 for pretty cheap and it takes the most amazing pictures with this camera

Product Description:
EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens with 35mm equivalent of 96mm * compatible with Canon APS-C sensor digital SLR cameras only * USM (ultra sonic motor) for fast, silent focusing * auto focus system allows full-time manual focus override with lens still in AF mode * ideal for close-up, portrait, and available light shooting * working distance: 3-1/2" from front of lens to subject at life-size (1:1) magnification *
Amazon.com Product Description:
Bring small things into full-sized view with the Canon EF 60mm macro USM lens. Macro lenses can uncover detail that would be impossible to detect by the eye and give new perspective to extremely minute subjects such as insects or the petals of a small flower, and this lens is no exception. The 60mm lens offers an angle of view that's equivalent to a 96mm lens on a 35mm camera, along with a floating optical system that can focus down to life-size 1:1 magnification. The inner focusing system, meanwhile, is driven by a silent and powerful ring-type ultra-sonic monitor (USM), meaning the lens's overall length never changes during focus. Ultimately, the multi-purpose lens is equally at home shooting macro shots, portraits, or available-light photos. Like all Canon EF-S lenses, this lens is restricted to the EOS 20D, EOS Digital Rebel, and EOS Digital Rebel XT cameras.

Focal length: 60mm
Maximum aperture: 1:2.8
Lens construction: 12 elements in 8 groups
Diagonal angle of view: 25 degrees
Focus adjustment: Manual
Closest focusing distance: 0.65 feet
Filter size: 52mm
Dimensions: 2.9 inches in diameter, 2.8 inches long
Weight: 11.8 ounces

Customer Reviews

great lens
I received this lens for my birthday and took some flower pictures before I went and then a bunch of pictures while on vacation. this is a great lens for multipurpose walking around. It is lighter than my telephoto zoom, takes sharp pictures with amazing detail. I would recommend it for a second lens to anyone who already has a zoom. I am looking forward to setting up to photograph my mother-in-law's artwork with it as well.

BRILLIANT
I am an amateur camera guy - so you won't get any technical words from me.

Excellent lens - sharp image - light (as compared with the 100mm). Should be part of everyone's kit particularly if you enjoy both portrait and macro work.

Great macro lens!
I got this lens cheap on auction site (you know where). I used it with my XTi, and the difference between this baby and the kit 18-55 is huge! Image by the kit lens is dark and grainy, the color is so off. This 60mm creates very nice bokeh, great for outdoor. I took some very nice raindrop pictures. I don't know how better L lenses are, but for normal Joe like me, this lens is definitely the keeper and well worth the price.

Great macro lens
As a beginner photographer I hesitated to spend the money on this lens, but am very glad I did. It does just what I want it to do and the images turn out great. I would recommend this lens to anyone interested in a macro from Canon.

Amazing Lens - especially for the price.
This is a great lens - doesn't feel cheap, and the movement is so smooth. Perfect clarity, even handheld. Very pleased.

Customer Reviews

Great pics, slow pictures, battery hog
My previous camera was a digital Canon PowerShot A70. Had it for 5 years and it was great. One day it just quit working. With the cost to repair vs. the cost to buy new, we figured we'd just get the newest iteration of the A70, which seemed to be the Powershot A570IS. At just over 0, seemed like a great choice for us! Well, it has more mega pixels, and an extra zoom feature the A70 did not. It also takes 2 AA batteries instead of 4, and that's all great. However, the lag time between the time you press down the shutter and the time the picture actually "takes" is way too long, especially with human subjects. Also, the thing hogs batteries, AND does not give you much warning before it dies. There have been several disappointing situations where we've had no pictures of various occasions because of this annoying problem.
This NEVER happened with our A70, so I know Canon can do better!!!

Disappointed
After having my camera less than a year, the display screen no longer works. Yes, I can look through the view finder and everything still works. I can still access the photos after they are taken. I just can't see the picture on the screen as I take it. I feel so disappointed at the way things are made these days...It is disappointing that I need to start looking for a new camera AGAIN!!!

Excellent camera -- video capture is good, too!
I bought this camera for just $[...], right here at Amazon! I suppose that was a promotional discount.

I have enjoyed every moment of owning this camera. The memory card provided with the camera holds only a couple of shots; the first chance you get, replace it with a larger-capacity card with a minimum of 1 gigabyte.

You can easily turn the autofill flash off. Hardly any flash is needed for outside photos anyway. This makes the cycle time (time lag between one shot and the next) shorter, and the battery last longer. Use the best batteries you can find; the lithium batteries (about $[...] a pair) are the best. A 1GB card can hold hundreds of photos.

Uploading the photos into your computer requires a card-reader (about $[...]), if your computer doesn't have a built-in card reader. They do not need to be installed if your system is XP or more recent (and something similar for Macs, no doubt). The photos live in a folder on the card called DCIM, or something like that. You simply select the ones you want, and drag them across to your computer. The included software will enable you to (1) resize the pictures, (2) crop them, (3) rotate them, and (4) print them. With better software, all sorts of magic is possible.

The camera EVEN TAKES VIDEOS. I have taken tons of videos, and even the sound is good. Here are some examples; the sound quality is simply because I'm using the tiny microphone on the camera, and not the microphones they're using; THOSE were to make a huge noise, which is apparently important for rock groups: http://xrl.us/Dinosaur2

It comes across as a AVI file, which can be made into a DVD with the software microsoft bundles in with their operating systems. I'm sure this capability is common in cameras, but I never expected to be able to make videos of this quality with just a still camera. NOTE: you must set the resolution to high quality on the camera beforehand. I can't remember how this is done; until I did this, I could only take low-quality videos, which invariably shut off after three minutes, and were of a small size. (Actually, I think I remember setting it that way without thinking when I took my first video. So it's quite possible that the default setting is to make high-quality videos.) The total length of time a clip can be depends on the size of your memory card; I remember reading somewhere how many megabytes a minute used up, but I forget. I think it was right in the user's guide.

Another Note: The user's guide has references to basic information and advanced information. These references are to the TWO GUIDES that come with the camera. The books are referring to each other. (I point this out because it didn't strike me that that was what was going on.)

In sum, highly recommended indeed. No problems whatsoever.

Arch

Excellent all-around camera
I shoot video documentaries in HD with surround sound. From time to time I have a need for a decent still camera. After reading numerous reviews on respected photography websites, I decided I wanted a Canon A-series camera (excellent optics, very flexible manual control, AA battery operation) rather than a bulky SLR. In addition the most significant improvement in the past 5 years is image stabilization, with Canon's optical stabilization considered the best. Okay, that makes the choice of camera obvious--the A570.

Great cam, though not as tiny as many. Still, it's easier to hold and produces fantastic shots. Downside--it eats AA alkaline cells for breakfast, so take spares, or switch to NiMh cells and triple your capacity. Best of all worlds this way, and you can still use alkalines in an emergency.

This model number has been replaced by follow-on models, but my suggestion is to find either this camera or its direct replacements.

"Lens Error, Restart Camera"
Avoid this camera! After only two months, the thing is non-functional, only give this "lens error, restart camera" message.

A brand new camera, 0+ dollars, down the drain!!

A piece of junk!!

Customer Reviews

Forget Sony......
Following one week of using my Sony A300, it was no longer working. Upon Sonys' request, it was sent to one of their repair centers, who advised me that the LCD (an interior piece)was broken and not covered by the warranty. I contacted Sony who stated that it was my fault, that the interior piece was broken and that I had to pay for the repair (1.00), they called me about four times to restate, that I was responsible, it seems that with Sony the customer is always in the wrong.Sony Alpha DSLRA300K 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization with DT 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 Zoom Lens

Good camera from Sony
The A300 sits between the featureless A200 and the A350. It's a good camera, with excellent dynamic range and one of the best Live View implementations out there. However, the kit lens is mediocre to say the least and as a result, the camera's performance is compromised. My camera was defective and even though the problem was not a serious one, I returned it and went for a refund, which I used to buy the new Olympus E520.

Take a picture, it'll last longer....
Let me be honest, this is my first DSLR...and it is AWESOME!!! Ok, so I've already established that I'm no expert and by all means, take my review as you will. I do have to say that my brother, who is a serious amateur photographer (has his own studio, but it's not his main profession), has a Canon D40 (I think that's the one) which was a bit more expensive than mine. Well at his daughter's second birthday we put our cameras head to head and the Sony a300 consistantly came out ahead. Boy was he mad that in the category of overall picture quality the Sony came out AHEAD of the Canon! Who would have thought that? Sure, sure, he has more options, better positioned buttons and might have a frame (or fraction thereof) per second faster. Either way, what counts most - picture quality, ease of use, reliability and speed - are DEFINITE winners for the Sony a300. I'm sure if you're reading my review you've already read a few others touching on the tilt LCD screen, the OVF eyestart auto-focus, the in camera stabilization, and much much more. I can say for the money, you won't find a better DSLR out there. I've only had the camera for about a month and a half and taken almost a thousand pictures and have yet to find a drawback. I'll update this once I do, but don't hold your breath....

Sony + Minolta = Looks & Specs to back it up!
I just bought the A300 about a month ago, and it is everything a serious amateur wants in photography. I've compared it with other DSLRs of the same level from all sorts of big brands (Nikon, Canon, Olympus, etc.), and I decided to get the A300. Minolta has a lot of history and prestige when it comes to making camera body and lenses, and Sony just seems to make improvements on every product they get their hands on.

My girlfriend complains a lot about how I tend to move towards more bulky and heavy cameras, and so she stays clear of being the photographer when I bring the camera. But with the A300, she loves to use it because of its design/compact design, weight (pretty light compared to other DSLRs of the same level), and overall simplicity on operating the darn thing.

Sorry if this review doesn't provide the Pro's and Con's on specifications and other technical aspects of the camera; I'll leave the Specs page of the product description for that.

Awesome Camera for the money..
For the money you cannot get the features this camera from any other competitor. Make sure you read all of teh features and what this camera can do, for one it has 2x Teleconverter built in! that means my 300mm lens is now a 600mm lens. Wow! Even with the standard lens you have good telephoto! Plus it has live view! and an adjustable LCD? for 9? out of this world for an extra 0 over the A200, i bought that at Wal-Mart and took it back and orderd the A300 with overnight shipping!

Customer Reviews

Mistaken identity...twice
The lens pictured on the website page when I originally ordered is not the lens Amazon sent. Nor was its replacement, despite repeated e-mails over nearly a month pointing out the discrepancy. All they've done is replace the web page photo in the last few days. I am still waiting for Amazon to send the lens pictured when I first ordered.

Low Quality, regardless pro or amateur....
Yes, the lens is sharp, but this is pretty much the only positive thing. Speed is okay and okay, you have to consider the price...
After using this lens for a while, I realized that the pictures are simply less vivid. Comparing pictures from this lens with other lenses on the same camera (D80) shows a clear difference - the pictures look merely washed out and have less vivid colors. Despite all adjustments and testing, the pictures appear of much less quality if compared in a slide show...
Okay, the price is great but who wants to have second class pictures...
For me - unusable and not (absolutely not) worth the money.
During the first few weeks of usage, I was actually satisfied. It took some time to find out that the difference is in the color quality. I then did a test and compared pictures by putting them together in a slide show.
If you have this lens, try it out and make this test - you will be disappointed - drastic difference...

Good Lens for Beginners
I'm new to the Digital SLR World. Decided to try this for fun and as a new type of stress relief. I've only used point and shoot cameras in the past. Was concerned about the potential for shaky pictures when I was reviewing dSLR cameras and lens; and I was greatly surprised with what I experienced with my first shots. Shots with this lens and my new Nikon D40 came out clean and sharp. Shots were taken without a tripod. I agree with other reviews for you to save your money and get this lens over the VR version. I found this lens easy to use, and if gave great shots for very small subjects (i.e. toy poodles) up to 20 feet away. This lens is a great companion to the 18-55mm lens.

My wife is very happy!
I bought this lens for my wife who enjoys her Nikon camera and she is very happy now.

Exactly what I expected
For less than I expected. Arrived sooner than expected and it worked right out of the box. A good product and a great vendor.

Customer Reviews

Awsome
this is good and it takes nice pics. good for people on a low budget. video capture is nice too

worked for less than a month
Granted its not the most expensive feature packed camera, picture quality not always that great. about 1 in 4 pictures is waste due to image problems, low light, blur etc.
You MUST buy extra memory. the internal memory will hold 2-3 pictures at the 8 MP setting.
Oh, did I mention the LCD screen is cracked? with minimal use, non abusive carried in my pocket the screen is unusable with no other view finder, its unusable. looking into warranty repair, but I'm guessing it will cost more than the camera.
if they repair under warranty, I will give it 3 stars.

Too slow
I bought this to replace my Canon Powershot A70, which I've had replaced or repaired at least 4 times over 5 years (now the lens is broken, again). I got this one on a whim, because I wanted a more expensive one that wasn't in stock. This camera is slow to take photos so many precious moments have been missed. The way to change to another mode (movie, manual) is multi-step so again, moments are missed. And it seems like photos aren't very bright. I just bought another Canon.

Battery is not
Nice point and shoot camera. Price is good. A great starter camera or use as a spare. I have had problems with cameras in this price range with premature death under 2 years - Pentax, Samsung. I don't expect this one to last long either. My 0 + digital cameras have preformed without premature death, but they are bigger to carry - this one is so convenient. The battery price is not - check around. I purchased one for under with free shipping.

fujifilm camera
The camera is being very useful for recording memories. The pictures are very sharp and the colors are bright.
