Coolpix is Cool!!!
The Nikon Coolpix L18, is a great starter camera for the serious picture taker! With 8 Megapixels and 3x optical zoom, it helps the casaual photographer to aspire to better hieghts! Could be more useful with a rechargable lithium-type battery as it does run through the standard AA batteries.

Nikon Coolpix is so easy
This camera is so easy to use - it's great. It was a Christmas present for my 13 year old daughter. She was thrilled with it - just popped in the batteries (which were included) and started taking pictures. The pictures came out clear and sharp. The next day we took a trip to Hershey and took more pictures on the Chocolate World tour - also great. I'd recommend this for an easy point and shoot digital camera.

don't cry over a broken camera
I was very upset when I realized that my digital camera was broken and that it would cost more to fix it than to get a new one. I looked around my town and Wal Mart had the Nikon Coolpix on sale for . I checked Amazon, found it for and no shipping costs. Then when I received it, took some pictures, I was astounded by the clarity of the photo, the ease to operate the camera and the color red. I was very happy. I wish I could attach the first photo I took of my Black Lab in the first snow of the season. It was my Christmas card this year.

Piece of Junk
I bought this camera on Dec. 22 as a gift for my son. We brought it on vacation, and by Dec. 28 it stopped working. The display monitor wouldn't display a picture any more. I never dropped it, never manhandled it, and was always careful with it. My son was, too, as I taught him to always wear the camera strap on his wrist to avoid accidentally dropping it, and I always observed him using it, and he was very careful. Nevertheless, the display doesn't work anymore, and since it doesn't have a viewfinder, I now have a 0 paperweight, as Best Buy told me it was "accidental" damage, even though I had no accident with it. I guess I'll try sending it to Nikon, though am not happy that I have to pay all the postage for their junky product, and if they decide it's an "accident," I'll get no help there either.
The picture quality was ok (though there were a bunch of blurry ones for no reason I can figure out and some with streak marks), but I didn't expect too much because of the price. Never going with Nikon again, though. If you decide to buy this anyway, be sure NOT to get it from Best Buy, as they don't stand behind their products unless you buy their ridiculously overpriced warranty plans. Maybe they buy junk on purpose hoping you'll buy their warranty plans (which by the way aren't that great since we had one on a laptop from them and it took them forever to fix it each time it broke).

Eats Batteries!
This camera takes pretty good pics for the money, BUT it eats batteries even if it is switched OFF!...sit it on the shelf for two weeks and the batteries are dead. You cannot use rechargeables either...DO NOT BUY, but if you do, then buy a 100 pack of batteries.
